The Felt VRs are the disc brake version of Felt's acclaimed Z series endurance bikes and are designed for a rider who wants a light and fast road bike, but have the option of running wider tires for multi-surface riding.
The VR series bikes are 3 to 4 pounds lighter, and significantly faster, than comparable gravel bikes and fill a real need for a non-racing road bike for more athletic riders.
Frame and Fork
The VR40 frame is constructed of smooth-weld, butted and hydroformed aluminum tubing with internally routed cables to keep everything functionally and aesthetically clean.
Up front the full carbon fiber fork provides road vibration dampening and the steerer tube is tapered, with a 1.125″ bearing at the top and a 1.5″ bearing at the bottom to maximize lateral stiffness.
Drivetrain and Brakes
The components are Shimano's 20 speed Tiagra 4700 series.
The compact 50/34 chainrings and 11-34 cassette range provide a super low 1 to 1 gear ratio for the steepest hills while maintaining high end gearing appropriate for everything but criterium sprints.
This year the brakes receive a major upgrade to full hydraulic, a big jump in power and modulation compared to mechanical disc or rim brakes.
Wheels and Contact Points
The remainder of the components are Devox by Felt. The seatpost, stem and handlebars are aluminum and the wheels are tubeless ready.
Tires are 700x30 Vittoria Zaffiro Pros.
The VR bikes can fit 700x32 gravel tires and 700 x 33 cyclocross tires for those riders who want a multi-surface option.
