Jamis Renegade A1
Couldn't load pickup availability
The most affordable model of the Renegades, the A1 is constructed of 6061 aluminum tubing matched with an aluminum bladed fork. Like all Renegades it as capable off pavement as it is on.
Outfitted with full coverage fenders and a rear carrier rack, and featuring clearance for studded tires for winter use, the A1 makes for a great year around bike.
Drivetrain and Brakes
The shifters, front and rear derailleurs are Shimano Claris. FSA's Vero crankset has compact 50/34 chainrings and the rear gears are a hill friendly 11-34.
The mechanical disc brake calipers are Tektro Lyra mechanical cable actuated with 160mm wavey rotors.
Braking on the A1 is better than standard rim brake calipers, particularly off-pavement, but not as powerful as full hydraulic discs.
Wheels and Contact Points
The remainder of the components are solid. The seatpost, stem and handlebars are all 6061 aluminum.
The wheels are built for durability first and should last the life of the bike. The tires are WTB Riddler Comp 700 x 37.
Depending on the size the A1 weighs 24 lbs. Like everything in cycling weight is inversely related to price.
That said, the A1 is lighter, faster than the equivalent hybrid and more durable and versatile than a comparable road bike.
Ride Quality
The Renegades series, not just the A1, have a body position that is the most comfortable that we have ever ridden on a drop bar bike.
If you are riding for recreation, fitness, touring or commuting and not interested in speed above all else, this bike really is a revelation.
